For the past several weeks my class and i have been researching and drawing different elements that are on the periodic table. I am doing Aluminum. Aluminum's symbol on the periodic table is AI with the atomic number 13. The element is actually found in the Earth's crust. no body really invented aluminum, but was discovered by Pierre Berthier in 1825. For my print I originally thought of doing a car because at one point in history cars were made from aluminum, but then i decided to create an aluminum baseball bat. The bat is completely made of aluminum and when making contact with a baseball it absorbs the velocity and sends the ball back with 10x the amount of velocity. I made my plate by easily drawing an aluminum bat and tracing it on the plate. Then I heavily traced it again on the Linolium plate to get the basic outline and started cutting it out with a red handled sharp tool. When making my print it was very frustrating because I had problems with coming up an original idea and cutting it out. When I finally got an idea I just drew it and traced it on the plate. I liked cutting the pictures out because it was very cool how on one side once you traced your picture on the plate it would be shown backwards, but when you cut it out and flipped the plate over, the drawing would come out the right way. If I were to do something better I would take more time and cut more lightly because on my first try I cut too deep and almost cut the entire plate.
